After using mechanical locks for a period of time, it is inevitable that the parts will become dull or even rusty. Many people think that repairing such situations only requires treating other mechanical parts like applying oil. This principle is correct, but applying cooking oil and engine oil is incorrect.
It is undeniable that edible oil, engine oil, and other oils have a certain lubricating and anti oxidation effect, but these oils can also easily mix with the iron filings and dust of the lock, forming oil stains attached to the lock, causing dryness and stickiness during use, and even sticking to bullets, springs, etc. The leaked oil can also bring a lot of inconvenience to life. Therefore, it is incorrect to maintain mechanical locks and use oil indiscriminately.
Use professional lubricating oil and avoid adding any other oil for lubrication to prevent grease from sticking to the spring, causing the lock head to not rotate and cannot be opened. But there are also a very small number of lock cylinders that cannot be lubricated, such as ball lock cylinders.
